Kohli Supports Djokovic's Wimbledon Ambitions

Star Indian cricketer and former captain, Virat Kohli, has expressed his support for Serbian tennis icon Novak Djokovic as he aims for a record-equalling eighth Wimbledon title this year. Kohli, along with his wife Anushka Sharma, was present at Centre Court to witness Djokovic's fourth-round match against Australia's Alex de Minaur.

Djokovic's Performance at Wimbledon

During the match, Kohli observed Djokovic's impressive comeback after losing the first set, ultimately winning in four sets to secure his place in the quarterfinals for the 16th time. Kohli shared his admiration for Djokovic on Instagram, referring to him as a 'gladiator' alongside a photo from the match.

Kohli's Connection with Djokovic

In a conversation with former Indian tennis player and broadcaster Vijay Amritraj, Kohli revealed that he has been in contact with Djokovic. He expressed his hope for a final showdown between Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, favoring Djokovic for the title. Kohli stated, "I've been in touch with Novak for a while now. We've exchanged some messages. He's been incredibly gracious and kind to stay in touch."

Kohli's Praise for Djokovic

Kohli further praised Djokovic, emphasizing that he deserves to win the Wimbledon title this year due to his remarkable dedication and Grand Slam achievements. He remarked, "In the conversation about being the greatest of all time, he'd be right up there with anyone else if not number one with the maximum number of Grand Slam titles. He deserves it."

Djokovic's Quest for Grand Slam Glory

Following his quarterfinal victory, Djokovic continues his pursuit of a historic 25th Grand Slam title, a milestone he has been striving for since 2024. This year, he faced setbacks at the Australian Open and French Open, both of which prevented him from surpassing Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slam titles.

If Djokovic secures the Wimbledon title, he will match Roger Federer's record of eight men's singles titles at the tournament, the highest in its history.

Upcoming Matches

Djokovic, who has lost his last two Wimbledon finals to Carlos Alcaraz, will compete against Italy's Flavio Cobolli in the quarter-finals on July 9.
