Raipur: In a thrilling display of batting prowess, Virat Kohli achieved his 53rd ODI century, while Ruturaj Gaikwad celebrated his first-ever ODI ton, leading India to a formidable total of 358 for five against South Africa in the second ODI held on Wednesday.
Kohli scored 102 runs off 93 balls, and Gaikwad contributed 105 runs from 83 balls, forming a remarkable partnership of 195 runs for the third wicket, helping India recover from an early 62 for two.
This marked Kohli's second century in consecutive matches, having also crossed the century mark in the previous game in Ranchi on Sunday.
The third-wicket partnership set a new record for India, being the highest against South Africa in ODIs.
South Africa faced challenges on a pitch that appeared easy to bat on, especially after pacer Nandre Burger had to leave the field due to an ankle issue during his seventh over.
Marco Jansen emerged as South Africa's standout bowler with figures of 2 for 63, effectively utilizing short-pitched deliveries.
KL Rahul added a significant contribution with an unbeaten 66, marking his second consecutive fifty in this series.
