The Bond Between Kohli and de Villiers

Virat Kohli shares a strong friendship with South African cricket icon AB de Villiers. The two often refer to each other affectionately as 'biscotti.' However, there was a period when one of them went silent on the other. In a recent discussion with a sports platform, de Villiers disclosed that Kohli was upset after he announced that Kohli was expecting his second child, leading to a temporary halt in their communication.

Fortunately, Kohli resumed their conversations, much to de Villiers' relief. He expressed his gratitude during the interview, stating,

"Thank goodness! Because I did have a bit of a footfall not too long ago when they were expecting their second child. So, I was very relieved when he started talking to me again."

This incident took place in 2024, just before the arrival of Kohli's second son, Akaay. Initially, de Villiers had shared the news about Kohli's wife's pregnancy but later retracted his statement in an interview, clarifying,

"Family comes first and then Cricket… That information was wrong and not true at all. Whatever the reason for his break, I hope he comes back stronger.”

Despite the initial confusion, the couple confirmed the birth of their son, Akaay, on February 15, which added some strain to their friendship due to the premature revelation.

Discussing Kohli's prospects in Test cricket, de Villiers noted that Kohli was navigating a tough period and sought his counsel. He remarked,

“He was unsure and wanted to talk it through. I’m pleased he chose to stay; it was a decision made from the heart, and I completely back him.”

De Villiers was also spotted at the 2025 IPL final, where Kohli invited him on stage alongside Chris Gayle to celebrate their victory. Their friendship, which blossomed during their time with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has garnered admiration from fans and fellow players alike.
