Yograj Singh Reflects on Kambli's Career
Recently, Yograj Singh, father of former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, shared insights about Kambli's untapped potential. In an interview with a sports media outlet, he expressed that he had warned Kambli early in his career about the importance of making wise choices. Yograj emphasized that had Kambli made better decisions, his cricketing journey could have been significantly more successful.
Yograj Singh's Cautionary Words
"I once advised Vinod Kambli to avoid distractions like parties, smoking, and women, warning him that such choices could lead to his downfall. Unfortunately, he dismissed my concerns, believing he was invincible. He thought, 'I’m the king,' but no one is above the game," Yograj recounted.
Kambli's Early Career Highlights
Originating from Mumbai, Kambli made a remarkable entry into international cricket in 1993, scoring two double centuries in his first seven Test matches and quickly becoming one of the fastest players to reach 1,000 runs in Test cricket. However, by 1995, his Test career was abruptly cut short due to fitness issues and disciplinary concerns, despite his impressive batting average.
Health Struggles Over the Years
In recent years, Kambli's health has deteriorated significantly. He suffered a heart attack in 2013, which necessitated angioplasty to address two blocked arteries. Additionally, he has sought treatment in rehabilitation centers for his alcohol dependency and has recently undergone treatment for brain blood clots.
Despite these challenges, there are positive updates indicating that Kambli is on the mend and making strides toward a healthier lifestyle.
