Gaikwad Matches Century Record, Jadeja Impresses

Ruturaj Gaikwad's remarkable century, along with half-centuries from Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja, stood out during the first innings of Thursday's Vijay Hazare Trophy matches.

After being omitted from the New Zealand ODI squad, Gaikwad, who previously scored his first ODI century against South Africa last year, achieved his second century of the current season. This performance allowed him to tie Ankit Bawne's record for the most centuries in the tournament's history, with both players now having 15 centuries each. While Bawne reached this milestone in 101 matches, Gaikwad accomplished it in just 59 matches. His impressive score of 134 not out off 131 balls, featuring eight fours and six sixes, helped Maharashtra post a total of 249/7. Vicky Otswal also contributed with a solid 53 runs off 82 balls, including two fours and two sixes. Gaikwad's season stats now show 413 runs in seven matches, averaging 82.60, with two centuries and one fifty.

In another match, Saurashtra faced Gujarat, where Vishvaraj Jadeja scored a century (112 runs off 103 balls, with nine fours and five sixes), supported by fifties from captain Harvik Desai (82 runs off 80 balls, with 13 fours and a six) and Ravindra Jadeja (52 not out off 39 balls, with four boundaries and two sixes), leading Saurashtra to a total of 383/4 in 50 overs.
