Vietnam's Alix Truong: The Rising Star of Pickleball
Alix Truong: A Star in the World of Pickleball
Pickleball is gaining immense popularity in Asia, particularly in Vietnam, where American professionals are receiving a royal welcome. Among the standout players is 19-year-old Alix Truong, who has been competing on the professional circuit in the United States since the age of 14. She has quickly risen to become one of the top young talents in her home country.
In the United States, Truong is becoming a well-known name, but in Vietnam, she holds a different status altogether. Known as Vietnam’s Pickleball Princess, she reflects on her upbringing in a strict Asian household in the D.C. area, where high expectations were set for her and her younger brother to pursue prestigious careers like medicine or law.
Her competitive spirit was fostered from a young age, as she and her brother often found themselves in rivalry, whether in academics, sports, or even performing arts. This environment has undoubtedly contributed to her current drive and competitiveness.
Truong's connection to Vietnam deepened through her participation in international competitions. She was involved with a foundation led by Simone, which provided training and funding for tournament trips. This allowed her to visit cities like Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi multiple times within a year.
Currently, she holds the title of the top Vietnamese pickleball player globally and ranks eighth on the PPA Tour. In Vietnam, her fame transcends mere rankings; she feels like a celebrity. “When I go there, I feel like a star. Honestly, I’m like a princess,” she shares.
As pickleball continues to grow in Asia, Truong’s story exemplifies the sport's expanding influence and the rise of new markets where players are starting to gain international recognition.
