Vibhu Tyagi Claims Victory at Deaflympics Selection Trials

In Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, Vibhu Tyagi from Maharashtra has claimed the top position at the Deaflympics Selection Trials 2025, showcasing his skills in golf at the prestigious Jaypee Greens Golf Course. Over two challenging rounds, Tyagi achieved a total score of 168 (24-over par), leading the competition despite the tough conditions characterized by heat, humidity, and strong winds, as reported by IGU Media.

The trials, organized by the All India Sports Council of the Deaf (AISCD) with support from the Indian Golf Union, took place from August 6 to 8, 2025. This event featured six dedicated athletes, including one female competitor, highlighting the increasing inclusivity within Indian sports for the hearing-impaired community.

Following Tyagi, Harsh Singh from Uttar Pradesh secured the second position, while Chandigarh's Jastar Singh Billing finished third. These trials were pivotal in selecting India's golf team for the upcoming Deaflympics 2025, scheduled to be held in Tokyo later this year.

The event commenced with a warm welcome from IGU Treasurer Sanjeev Rattan, who, alongside AISCD Chairman Mohinder Singh, motivated the participants. Other notable attendees included project manager Somesh Sharma and technical director for badminton, Smt Sonu Anand Sharma.

Mohinder Singh expressed, “The selection trials were executed with fairness and transparency. Although the number of participants was limited, the competition was intense, and the athletes consistently performed well throughout both rounds. I extend my gratitude to the Indian Golf Union for their support and wish the best for all participants. As our honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi states, ‘Jo khele, who khile’—these exceptional athletes are fortunate to have the chance to represent our nation at such a high level.”

Regrettably, Ishant S. Shikare was disqualified after the first round due to a violation of Rule 3.3b of the 2023 Rules of Golf. The tournament committee made this decision after a thorough review to uphold fairness and integrity in the selection process.
