Venkatesh Kenche Shines as India 'A' Hockey Team Dominates Ireland

India 'A' Hockey Team's Impressive Start
On July 11, the India 'A' men's hockey team kicked off their European tour with remarkable victories, defeating Ireland 6-1 and 6-0 in their opening matches. Among the notable players is Venkatesh Kenche, a promising forward recognized for his exceptional speed and aggressive playing style, who is eager to seize this opportunity.
Kenche, who previously participated in the Junior National Camp in 2016 and 2018, has made a strong comeback to the national setup, attributing his success to consistent performances in domestic competitions.
"I have dedicated myself to rigorous training and practice. My aspiration has always been to represent India," he stated. "I concentrated on my fundamentals and fitness, which has significantly enhanced my performance. The domestic circuit is highly competitive, with numerous strong teams pushing us all to elevate our game."
He played a pivotal role in Hockey Maharashtra's bronze medal achievement at the National Games and their quarter-final placement at the Senior National Championship.
Expressing his emotions about debuting for India 'A', Kenche remarked, "Representing India has been a dream realized. I take immense pride in this, and my family shares in that pride. They have always been my support system, encouraging me without imposing any pressure, for which I am truly thankful."
Discussing the transition from domestic to international hockey, Kenche noted the differences in pace and tactical complexity.
"The game strategy here varies significantly, and the intensity is much greater," he explained. "Coaches emphasize detailed planning, and it’s crucial to pay close attention to perform effectively."
When reflecting on donning the India jersey for the first time, the 24-year-old admitted to feeling nervous initially. "At first, I was a bit anxious, but I quickly found my rhythm and now feel a sense of belonging. The team is incredibly supportive, and we don’t single out individuals for errors, which has greatly boosted my confidence."
Kenche is also focused on areas for improvement. "My speed with the ball is a natural strength, but I’ve put in considerable effort to enhance it," he noted. "Moving forward, I aim to develop my goal-scoring skills further."
Looking to the future, he expressed confidence in the team's performance. "The team is in great form, and we are optimistic about the remainder of the tour."
Next, India 'A' and Venkatesh Kenche will compete against France on Saturday.
