Veer Shah Triumphs at Indian Open

On April 1, Veer Shah secured the Boys Under 16 Singles championship during the inaugural day of the Indian Open, a PWR 1000 event sanctioned by the Indian Pickleball Association, held at CrossCourts in Hyderabad. This prestigious five-day tournament, organized by Global Sports, showcased Veer's exceptional talent, especially after his impressive performance at the Pickleball World Cup in Florida, where he earned three medals, and his two gold medals at the IPA Nationals in Bengaluru last year.

Despite being a junior player, Veer faced a formidable challenge from Panth Thakkar, a rising star in the sport. The final was intensely competitive, with both players exchanging points evenly until Veer ultimately triumphed with a score of 21-19. Both athletes have been selected to represent India at the upcoming 2026 US Open.

In addition to the title, Veer received a cash prize of Rs 20,000, while Panth was awarded Rs 10,000 for his second-place finish. Reflecting on the match, Veer remarked, "It was an incredible match. Pant challenged me significantly, but I managed to play well during crucial moments and executed some great shots. It was a wonderful experience." The tournament has attracted over 1,100 participants across 54 categories, competing for a total prize pool of $50,000.
