Veer Ahlawat Advances at Danish Golf Championship with Strong Performance

Ahlawat's Remarkable Comeback

Copenhagen [Denmark], August 17: Veer Ahlawat showcased a determined performance during the second round of the Danish Golf Championship, successfully making the cut to continue competing on the DP World Tour.

At the Furesø Golf Klub, Ahlawat recorded a score of 73-68, finishing at 1-under and securing a Tied-45th position after the first 36 holes, according to a statement from the championship organizers.

In contrast, Shubhankar Sharma faced ongoing challenges, finishing with rounds of 71-71, which left him just one stroke shy of the cut line set at 1-under.

Ahlawat, who started the day needing a strong performance after an opening round of 2-over 73, faced early setbacks with a double-bogey on the Par-4 13th, his fourth hole of the day. However, he made a remarkable recovery, scoring five birdies over six holes, beginning at the 16th.

His consecutive birdies on the 16th and 17th helped regain momentum, and three additional birdies on the front nine pushed him above the cut line. Although a bogey on the Par-3 fifth raised concerns, a vital birdie on the Par-4 eighth ensured his progression into the weekend.

For Sharma, even-par scores on both days were not enough, marking a continued struggle since March.

Leading the tournament, Denmark's Rasmus Højgaard thrilled local fans with an impressive 7-under 64, bringing his total to 12-under (66-64) and establishing a two-shot lead at the halfway point. The 24-year-old began on the back nine, securing his first birdie on the 16th and following it up with an eagle on the 18th. He continued his strong play on the front nine, achieving five birdies in six holes, with a single bogey on the eighth slightly affecting his score.

England's Marco Penge, who led overnight with a score of 64, remained competitive with a 68 that included six birdies and three bogeys, placing him at 10-under and in second place.

With two rounds left, Højgaard is well-positioned to pursue another victory on the DP World Tour, while Ahlawat aims to ascend the leaderboard over the weekend.
