Chakravarthy's Stellar Performance Ahead of Final T20I

Ahmedabad: Spinner Varun Chakravarthy has emerged as India's leading bowler in the T20I series against South Africa, claiming six wickets across three innings. As the series heads into its fifth and final match in Ahmedabad, he is optimistic about helping India secure a decisive victory. Chakravarthy expressed his desire to put pressure on himself as part of his preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Currently, India holds a 2-1 lead in the series, following the abandonment of the fourth match due to fog after just one ball was bowled. The team aims to clinch a 3-1 series win at the Narendra Modi Stadium, while South Africa seeks to level the series at 2-2, showcasing a clash between two top contenders for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

The final T20I in Ahmedabad presents India with an opportunity to conclude a challenging tour against South Africa on a high note, and Chakravarthy is determined to play a significant role in achieving that goal.

In an interview on JioStar, Chakravarthy emphasized the importance of trusting his bowling lengths, learning from past international experiences, and mentally pushing himself even in seemingly straightforward matches. He noted that confidence and a strong mindset have been crucial to his recent achievements.

"My approach is straightforward: focus on the basics and maintain my length. It has worked well in the last three matches, and I plan to continue this strategy in the upcoming game. Mindset and skill are intertwined; a lack of confidence can hinder performance," Chakravarthy explained.

"Staying confident and backing my abilities is essential for executing well without making drastic changes. Consistency is key at this level, and understanding where you stand is vital. My initial international match was challenging, but it taught me valuable lessons. I returned to practice and made necessary adjustments, highlighting the importance of competing at the highest level," he added.

Regarding his World Cup preparations, Chakravarthy stated, "It's crucial to impose pressure on yourself to prepare for the World Cup. You must challenge yourself, even in easy matches. Creating mental pressure is essential. Confidence, bowling accurately, and understanding the opposition are critical factors I aim to carry into the World Cup. With a better grasp of the opposition, I believe I can excel."
