Exciting Start at the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship

New Delhi, September 29: The 30th Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship kicked off at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) Complex, with top seed Vaishnavi Adkar and Karnataka's SD Prajwal Dev both securing victories in their opening matches.

In the women's singles, Maharashtra's Vaishnavi showcased her skills by dominating her first-round match against Mirudhula Palanivel from Tamil Nadu, winning decisively with scores of 6-2, 6-4. Meanwhile, second seed Prajwal also had a strong performance, defeating Delhi's Sarthak Suden with a score of 6-2, 6-1 in the men's singles.

This prestigious tournament, supported by DCM Shriram Ltd. and organized by the All India Tennis Association (AITA) alongside the DLTA, is recognized as India's largest domestic tennis event, attracting top talent from across the nation.

Vaishnavi's match was marked by her impressive baseline play, quickly establishing a 4-0 lead in the first set. Although Mirudhula managed to win a game and break Vaishnavi's serve, the top seed maintained her composure and closed out the set by winning the next two games.

The second set was more competitive, with the score tied at 3-3 before Vaishnavi broke her opponent's serve again, ultimately securing her place in the next round. Prajwal, on the other hand, faced little resistance from Sarthak, who initially won the first game of the second set but then fell behind as Prajwal won six consecutive games to clinch his victory.

In a surprising turn of events, Odisha's Debasis Sahoo upset fifth seed Parth Aggarwal, winning 7-5, 6-0. The first set was a rollercoaster, with Parth leading 5-3 before Debasis rallied to win four straight games. He then dominated the second set to advance.

Punjab's Sahira Singh also triumphed in her first-round match, defeating Sonicka Jadeesh 6-4, 6-0. After a challenging first set, Sahira regained control and won decisively in the second set.

In the men's singles, Tamil Nadu's Manish Sureshkumar began his campaign with a solid win over Amrutjay Mohanty from Odisha, finishing with scores of 6-3, 6-1. Manish's powerful forehands were key to his success, especially in the second set where he lost only one game.

In addition to the prestigious titles, the tournament features a prize pool exceeding Rs 21.55 Lakh, along with Kit Allowance for junior categories. Winners and runners-up in the U16 and U14 singles events will also receive a Tennis scholarship of Rs 25,000 each.

The qualifying and main draw matches for the Boys and Girls Under-16 & Under-14 categories are scheduled from October 5 to October 11.
