Vaibhav Suryavanshi: The 14-Year-Old Cricket Sensation Making Waves in IPL 2025
Vaibhav Suryavanshi's Remarkable Achievement
In a stunning display of talent, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi of the Rajasthan Royals scored a phenomenal century off just 35 balls against the Gujarat Titans during IPL 2025. His explosive batting has captivated cricket fans and garnered praise from notable figures, including Rohit Sharma, the captain of India's ODI and Test teams. Suryavanshi's coach is optimistic about his future prospects with the national team, although current ICC regulations prevent him from participating in international matches.
Age Restriction for T20 World Cup 2026
What Prevents Vaibhav from Playing T20 WC 2026?
Vaibhav Suryavanshi is currently 14 years and 34 days old. The ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2026 is scheduled for February-March in India and Sri Lanka. By that time, he will still be shy of his 15th birthday, which falls on March 27, 2026.
According to a rule established by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2020, players must be at least 15 years old to compete in international matches. Consequently, despite his evident talent, Suryavanshi cannot be selected for the Indian squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup unless an exception is made.
There exists a provision that allows players under 15 to participate in international cricket if their cricket board, in this case, the BCCI, submits a request to the ICC demonstrating that the player possesses the necessary skills, mental fortitude, and physical fitness. If the ICC approves, the player may debut internationally ahead of the age requirement.

In his match against the Gujarat Titans, Suryavanshi scored 101 runs off 37 balls, hitting 7 fours and 11 sixes. This achievement makes him the youngest player ever to score a century in both IPL and T20 cricket. His century, reached in just 35 balls, is now the fastest by an Indian in IPL history and the second-fastest overall, surpassed only by Chris Gayle's 30-ball century in 2013.
His remarkable performance has established him as one of the most talked-about young cricketers in India. While he may not yet be eligible to represent the national team, his future in cricket looks incredibly promising.
