In IPL 2026, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been making headlines with his exceptional batting skills. The 15-year-old prodigy has been scoring runs against every team, impressively hitting boundaries against renowned bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Josh Hazlewood. Following his outstanding performance, calls for his inclusion in the Indian national team have intensified.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly strategizing with coach Gautam Gambhir to prepare Suryavanshi for the ICC T20 World Cup 2028, aiming to reclaim the trophy for India.
Arun Dhumal Advocates for Suryavanshi's Inclusion in Team India
IPL chairman Arun Dhumal has also voiced his support for Vaibhav Suryavanshi, urging the BCCI to consider his recent form for a spot in the national team. In a tweet, Dhumal stated:
“Vaibhav Suryavanshi has showcased remarkable batting in IPL 2026. Given his performance, he certainly deserves the opportunity to debut for the Indian team at such a young age. It is rare to find such talent at this age, and it would be fitting for him to be recognized as one of the youngest players to debut for India.”
Potential Opportunity Against Ireland
According to BCCI regulations, players cannot debut before turning 15. Now that Vaibhav Suryavanshi has reached this age, he is poised to represent Team India following the IPL. He is making every effort to catch the attention of chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir.
India's next T20 International match is scheduled against Ireland on June 26. It remains to be seen if the 15-year-old will get a chance in the main squad. Previously, Suryavanshi played a pivotal role in leading India to victory in the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 final against England, scoring an impressive 175 runs.
