Vaibhav Suryavanshi Reflects on Childhood Heroes Ahead of IPL 2026
Childhood Inspirations
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the promising young batsman from India, shared insights about his childhood idols as he prepares for the Rajasthan Royals' inaugural match in the IPL 2026 season. He expressed admiration for cricket icons Brian Lara and Yuvraj Singh, who significantly influenced his early cricketing journey. The Royals are set to kick off their IPL 2026 campaign against the Chennai Super Kings, a team with five championship titles, on March 30. Suryavanshi, a key player in the Royals' quest for the title, is also a proud winner of the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 and has made headlines for his remarkable achievements since becoming the youngest player to secure an IPL contract at just 13 years old before the 2025 season.
Team Objectives for IPL 2026
In a conversation on JioStar, Suryavanshi outlined his aspirations after joining the Rajasthan Royals. He aims to provide solid starts, play aggressively during the powerplay, and convert those opportunities into substantial innings. His primary focus this season is to contribute to the team's success in winning the championship, believing that individual accolades will follow if the team performs well. "My goal upon being selected was to ensure a strong start for the team. I want to play my natural game during the Powerplay, and if I can establish a good beginning, I intend to build on that without losing my wicket. I understand that if I play my shots effectively, it will shift the game's dynamics, especially when chasing totals over 200 runs, which is challenging for any team. Winning the trophy is the ultimate aim, and if we achieve that, both my performance and the team's will be recognized, which is what matters most," he stated.
A Journey of Records
During the IPL mega auction prior to the 2025 season, Suryavanshi made headlines by securing a contract worth Rs 1.1 crore with the Rajasthan Royals, earning the title of the youngest player in IPL history. At just 14 years old, he became the youngest T20 centurion and the first Indian to achieve the fastest fifty in IPL history during a match against the Gujarat Titans that season. He began his IPL career with a six on his first ball and quickly emerged as one of the season's standout young talents, accumulating 252 runs in seven innings with an impressive average of 36.00 and a strike rate of 206.55, including a century and a fifty.
