Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Remarkable Performance

Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar praised 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his extraordinary innings against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the eliminator match. He highlighted Sooryavanshi's "impressive bat swing" and his ability to effectively clear his front foot for leg-side deliveries, which allows him to hit sixes effortlessly. Sooryavanshi scored an astonishing 97 runs off just 29 balls, featuring five fours and 12 sixes, achieving a strike rate exceeding 334. Notably, he surpassed the legendary Chris Gayle's record for the most sixes in a T20 tournament, totaling 65 sixes in the current Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Widespread Acclaim for the Young Star

On social media platform X, Tendulkar expressed his admiration, stating, "Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's bat swing has been outstanding. What's even more remarkable is how beautifully he clears his front foot to create room for balls aimed at his legs. This freedom allows him to play the way he does. That innings was nothing short of spectacular!" Additionally, India's World Cup-winning all-rounder praised Sooryavanshi for breaking Gayle's record, calling him the "Boss baby" and sharing his excitement about the young talent.

Former cricketer Mohammed Kaif also recognized Sooryavanshi as a "miracle, a future star," emphasizing the bright future of cricket. He remarked, "We are witnessing a miracle, we are seeing a future star, we are seeing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi the wonder boy. Jaw-dropping sixes, breaking Chris Gayle's record of most sixes in his first full IPL season. And he's just 15. The entire cricket world applauds. Cricket has so much to look forward to."

A Series of Record-Breaking Achievements

Sooryavanshi has matched Gayle's record for the most instances of hitting 10 or more sixes in an IPL innings, achieving this feat four times, with three occurring this season. He is the first player to hit 10 or more sixes in three separate IPL innings within a single season.

The young cricketer continues to dismantle records, having surpassed Sri Lankan legend Sanath Jayasuriya's record of seven powerplay sixes during the IPL 2008 match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), hitting eight sixes in the powerplay at Mullanpur.

Sooryavanshi holds the record for the most runs scored in the powerplay during an IPL season, amassing 490 runs, surpassing Australian great David Warner's 467 runs in the 2016 season. This marks his fifth fifty-plus score in the powerplay, with only Warner ahead of him with six such scores.

He has joined the ranks of Suresh Raina and Adam Gilchrist for fifty-plus scores made during powerplay in IPL knockout matches.

This marks Sooryavanshi's fifth fifty in under 20 balls, with only Abhishek Sharma having more. His 16-ball half-century ties with Raina's record for the fastest fifty in an IPL knockout match.

The twelve sixes he hit are the most in an IPL knockout match, surpassing Shubman Gill's ten sixes against MI in 2023. He also holds the record for the most sixes in an IPL inning by an Indian.

Sooryavanshi's 97 runs are the second-highest individual score for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in an IPL knockout match, following Jos Buttler's 106* against RCB in the IPL 2022 qualifier.
