Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Returns to IPL with Rajasthan Royals

The young Indian cricket prodigy, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, is set to make his return in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a member of the Rajasthan Royals. At just 14 years old, he will be playing for the Royals for the second consecutive season after debuting in the last tournament.

Sooryavanshi made headlines during his debut season, showcasing an aggressive batting style that captivated cricket fans. He gained recognition for his remarkable 101-run innings against the Gujarat Titans, becoming the youngest player to score a T20 century and the second-fastest to reach a hundred in IPL history.

Despite the Rajasthan Royals not advancing to the playoffs, Vaibhav's outstanding performances, including his record-setting century, have firmly established him as one of the most promising young talents in both the IPL and international cricket.

Sooryavanshi's Aspirations for IPL 2026

At the recent BCCI Naman Awards, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi shared the spotlight with cricket stars like Hardik Pandya and Sanju Samson. During the event, he was asked about his aspirations for the upcoming IPL season.

In a video shared by a sports channel, renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle posed a question regarding his goals for IPL 2026, offering three options: hitting six sixes in an over, surpassing Chris Gayle’s IPL record of 175, or achieving the fastest century in IPL history.

Sooryavanshi expressed his ambition to break Chris Gayle’s record of 175 runs, stating, “Agar hume pehla mila, pehle hi uda denge!”

Chris Gayle set the record for the highest individual score in IPL history with an unbeaten 175 runs off 66 balls for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors India in 2013. He also holds the record for the fastest IPL century, reaching 100 runs in just 30 balls.

Aiming for the Trophy with Rajasthan Royals

As the IPL season approaches, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is anticipated to play a crucial role for the Rajasthan Royals. In a statement made during the BCCI Naman Awards, he emphasized his goal of winning the championship for his team.

He remarked, “The goal this IPL season is to win the trophy for the team, as it is a very important thing. I want to do well, and my performance will help the whole team.”

Sooryavanshi aims to contribute significantly to the Royals' success and secure the trophy for the franchise.

Acquired by the Rajasthan Royals for INR 1.1 Crore during the IPL 2025 Auction, he is recognized as one of the youngest and most valuable teenage talents in IPL history. His talent was noted early on, leading to extensive scouting by the team.

Additionally, Sooryavanshi was part of the Indian squad that won the U-19 World Cup, where he set multiple records with a stunning 175-run performance against England, including 15 sixes and 15 fours, at an impressive strike rate of 218.75.
