Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Receives First Call-Up for India A Squad
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Joins India A for Sri Lanka Tour
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has earned his first selection for the India A team in one-day cricket, being included in a 15-member squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. The Indian team will participate in a tri-series against the A teams of Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. This will be Sooryavanshi's second appearance for the India A team, having previously played in the 2025 Emerging Asia Cup last year under the captaincy of Jitesh Sharma, although that was in the T20 format. His upcoming matches in Sri Lanka will be his debut in List A cricket for the national 'A' team.
Tilak Varma Takes Charge as Captain
Tilak Varma has been appointed as the captain for this tour, marking his second consecutive leadership role in the one-day format following a home series against South Africa A in November last year. The 23-year-old also led the team during the 2024 Emerging Asia Cup, which was also played in T20 format. Riyan Parag, the skipper of Rajasthan Royals, will serve as the vice-captain.
Focus on Pace Attack Ahead of Afghanistan Series
With the Indian senior team's pace attack aging, selectors have chosen to focus on younger talents, including Anshul Kamboj, Arshad Khan, Yudhvir Singh, and Yash Thakur. It appears these players are not part of the plans for the senior team's upcoming Test or ODI series against Afghanistan, which is scheduled from June 6 to 20. The India A tour of Sri Lanka will kick off on June 9 with a match against the hosts, culminating in the final on June 21, all set to take place in Dambulla.
