Upcoming ICC Election: Eight Candidates Compete for Three Positions
Significant Election at ICC Annual Conference 2025
The ICC Annual Conference 2025, set to take place in Singapore from July 17 to 20, will feature an important election involving eight candidates from Associate Member countries. This election aims to fill three vacancies on the International Cricket Council's Chief Executives' Committee (CEC).
Election Details: Voting Process and Candidates
Scheduled for July 17, the election will occur on the first day of the conference. A total of 45 Associate Member nations will participate in the voting process, where each voter can select three candidates in order of preference. The three candidates receiving the highest votes will serve on the CEC for a two-year term.
Meet the Candidates
The following eight individuals are vying for election:
- Anuraag Bhatnagar (Hong Kong)
- Tim Cutler (Vanuatu)
- Sarah Gomersall (Jersey)
- Gurdeep Klair (Canada)
- Palani Gurumurhty (France)
- Sankar Renganathan (Sierra Leone)
- Stella Siale Vaea Tagitau (Samoa)
- Sumod Damodar (Botswana) - Current CEC member
Notably, two current members, Rashpal Bajwa (Canada) and Umair Butt (Denmark), have opted not to seek re-election.
Insights from Sumod Damodar
In a recent discussion, Sumod Damodar shared his thoughts:
"The nominees contesting for the CEC are worthy opponents, in their own right, albeit two of the incumbents do not feature. As the only incumbent in the race and having served previously on CEC, I truly hope that my credentials and experience would merit the required support to achieve the desired successful outcome."
He further emphasized:
"I have always maintained that representation at any level requires unequivocal neutrality and absolute commitment to serve without any bias."
Damodar also remarked:
"The diversity among Associate Members is also such an exciting environment, and the efforts to unite all corners of the globe are excellent challenges. I hope to continue my efforts to voice the concerns and needs of the AMs, if given an opportunity to do so."
Importance of the Election
This election holds significant importance for Associate Members, as the elected representatives will play a crucial role in shaping ICC decisions over the next two years. The outcome will be closely monitored, as it may influence the representation and support for smaller cricketing nations on the global stage.
