UP Warriorz Unveils Unique Jersey to Promote Girls' Education

UP Warriorz's Special Jersey for a Cause

Renowned Indian artist Harun Robert, popularly known as 'Rob', has crafted a unique jersey for the UP Warriorz, a franchise in the Women's Premier League (WPL). This special jersey was showcased during their match against the defending champions, Mumbai Indians (MI), held on Saturday. The initiative aims to support the cause of providing free, flexible, and lifelong education for girls. This effort is part of the Warriorz's ongoing collaboration with 'Educate Girls', a grassroots organization dedicated to enhancing educational access for girls in underserved communities.

Design Inspired by Girls' Aspirations

Harun Robert, who gained fame from the art-and-craft show 'MAD' in the early 2000s, designed the jersey with inspiration drawn from handwritten letters by young girls across India. These letters expressed their ambitious dreams of becoming pilots, IPS officers, scientists, soldiers, and professional cricketers, showcasing a generation that dares to dream big. The design incorporates cognitive mapping to transform these personal narratives and aspirations into striking visual elements, symbolizing courage, creativity, and the relentless pursuit of excellence among young women.

Warriorz Secure Second Successive Win

The match, hosted at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, marked a significant turnaround for UP Warriorz, who secured their second consecutive victory after a challenging three-match winless streak. Captain Meg Lanning scored an impressive 70 runs off 45 balls, while Phoebe Litchfield contributed 61 runs from 37 balls, leading UPW to a total of 187/6. Despite strong performances from MI's Amelia Kerr (49* off 28 balls) and Amanjot Kaur (41* off 24 balls), MI struggled early, collapsing to 69/5. Shikha Pandey (2/32) and Kranti Gaud (1/30) were standout bowlers for UPW. Currently, UPW sits fourth in the points table with two wins and three losses, and they will face Gujarat Giants (GG) in Vadodara on January 22.
