Match Highlights: UP Warriorz vs Mumbai Indians

Navi Mumbai: In a thrilling encounter, UP Warriorz secured a victory against Mumbai Indians, scoring 187 runs for 8 wickets in their Women’s Premier League clash on Saturday. The standout performances came from captain Meg Lanning and fellow Australian Phoebe Litchfield, both of whom delivered impressive half-centuries.

After being asked to bat first, Lanning scored 70 runs, while Litchfield contributed 61 runs, forming a formidable partnership of 119 runs for the second wicket off just 76 balls. This came after Kiran Navgire's disappointing run continued, as she was dismissed for a duck in the opening over.

Navgire's struggles continued, having previously scored 1, 5, 0, and 10 in her last outings, as she fell victim to an inswinging delivery from Nicola Carey.

Despite Navgire's early exit, Lanning and Litchfield showcased their batting prowess, with Litchfield hitting seven boundaries and three sixes in her 37-ball innings. She was dismissed in the 13th over, leaving the team at 124 for 2. Lanning followed shortly after, having faced 45 balls and struck 11 fours and two sixes, leaving UP Warriorz at 136 for 3.

Contributions from Harleen Deol (25 off 16 balls) and Chloe Tryon (21 off 13 balls) helped bolster the total towards the end of the innings.

On the bowling front, Amelia Kerr (3/28) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (2/22) were the top performers for Mumbai, although the team’s fielding was subpar, with at least five catches dropped.

Brief Scores:

UP Warriorz: 187 for 8 in 20 overs (Meg Lanning 70, Phoebe Litchfield 61; Nat Sciver-Brunt 2/22, Amelia Kerr 3/28).
