Bizarre Run-Out Captivates Spectators

During Match No. 6 of the Maharashtra Premier League (MPL) 2025, an extraordinary incident unfolded at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, leaving fans and viewers astonished.

Puneri Bappa, batting first, set a challenging target of 202 runs, losing four wickets in the process. However, the highlight of the match came during the initial over of Raigad Royals' chase for 203 runs, when wicket-keeper Suraj Shinde executed a remarkable run-out with a single throw.

Raigad Royals' opener, Siddesh Veer, played a gentle shot towards the leg side and attempted a quick run. He hesitated upon noticing Shinde swiftly retrieving the ball. Meanwhile, his partner Harsh Mogaveera remained stationary, mistakenly believing the throw would not reach his end.

Shinde's throw hit the stumps at the striker's end, and although Veer managed to return in time, the ball ricocheted and struck the non-striker's stumps, resulting in Mogaveera's unexpected dismissal without scoring.

The on-field umpires reviewed the incident and confirmed the dismissal. This run-out adhered to MCC Law 38.4, which states that a batter is out if the stumps are broken at their end while they are outside the crease.

Historical Context of Similar Dismissals

This unusual type of dismissal has been witnessed in cricket before. A notable instance occurred during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2022, where Andre Russell faced a similar fate when the ball hit one set of stumps and rolled over to the other end, resulting in his run-out.

According to cricket regulations, the ball remains in play even after hitting the stumps, unless the umpire calls it dead or a batter is declared out.
