On Sunday, Raksha Khadse, the Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, visited NorthEast United FC. During her visit, she engaged with the club's management, coaching staff, and young athletes, commending their dedication to discovering and nurturing football talent, especially from the North East region.
Insights into Youth Development Strategy
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports reported that the visit included key figures such as Mandar Tamhane, CEO of NorthEast United FC, along with Rohit Thorat and Naushad Moosa, the Technical Director and Reserve Team Head Coach. They shared insights about the club's philosophy on youth development and their strategic vision for fostering a sustainable pathway for aspiring footballers.
Scouting and Talent Identification
The Minister learned about the club's comprehensive talent scouting program, spearheaded by Naushad Moosa. Coaches have been traveling across the nation to discover promising young players. The scouting process involves collaboration with the club's network of coaches, former players, and youth competitions organized by the All India Football Federation, alongside ongoing monitoring of youth national team players.
As part of this initiative, around 60 talented young athletes were invited to Guwahati for final selection trials. Those chosen will be integral to the club's Under-18 and Reserve Team, enhancing NorthEast United FC's long-term player development strategy.

Raksha Khadse expressed her appreciation for the club's organized method of talent identification and athlete development. She emphasized the necessity of establishing robust pathways from grassroots to elite levels for young athletes.
"The future of Indian football hinges on our capacity to spot talent early, offer quality coaching, and create structured opportunities for advancement. Initiatives that integrate grassroots scouting, athlete development, and long-term planning are essential for fortifying India's football framework," stated the Union Minister.

The Minister acknowledged that the North East remains one of India's most prolific sporting regions, consistently producing outstanding football talent. She stressed that ongoing investments in coaching, infrastructure, and scientific athlete development are crucial for unlocking even more potential from this area.
