Union Minister Scindia Praises John Abraham's Commitment to Indian Football
Meeting with Bollywood Star and NEUFC Owner
On June 18, Union Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia engaged with Bollywood actor John Abraham, who is also the owner of NorthEast United FC (NEUFC), along with the club's CEO, Mandar Tamhane.
Scindia took to his official X account on Wednesday to commend Abraham for his steadfast dedication to promoting Indian football and nurturing young talent. He shared a moment captured in a photo where he received a NEUFC jersey from both Abraham and Tamhane.
In his post, Scindia expressed, “It was a pleasure to meet @TheJohnAbraham and @MandarTamhane1, the CEO of Northeast United FC. It’s always refreshing to connect with someone who shares a profound enthusiasm for sports and is committed to discovering, developing, and supporting young talent, particularly in the Northeast, which is swiftly becoming a hub for sports in India.”
He further praised Abraham's aspiration to see a global football star like Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo emerge from India, describing the actor's passion for the game as “truly inspiring.”
“John’s relentless passion for football and his vision of witnessing a Messi or Ronaldo rise from our nation is genuinely motivating. I wish him and the team immense success in elevating Indian football to new heights,” Scindia added.

In related news, NorthEast United FC announced on Monday that promising midfielder Bekey Oram has signed a contract extension, securing his future with the Highlanders until the conclusion of the 2028 season, as stated by the Indian Super League (ISL).
Since joining the club for the 2023-24 season, Bekey has participated in 18 matches across the ISL, Super Cup, and Durand Cup. His versatility has allowed him to excel in both midfield and defense, demonstrating composure and tactical awareness.
Bekey played a crucial role in NorthEast United FC's victory at the 40th Sikkim Governor's Gold Cup and gained essential experience in the Reliance Foundation Development League (RFDL) as part of his ongoing development.
