Jaspal Rana's Untimely Passing
Renowned shooting champion Jaspal Rana has tragically passed away at the age of 49 due to a heart attack. He was serving as the High-Performance Coach for India's pistol shooting team and died early Friday morning at 6:30 AM at Max Hospital in Saket, Delhi. Reports indicate that Rana experienced discomfort while returning from the ISSF World Cup held in Munich, leading to his hospitalization for treatment.
His death is a profound loss for the Indian shooting community. Not only was Rana celebrated as one of the country's top shooters, but he also made significant contributions as a coach, notably mentoring Manu Bhaker, who secured two Olympic medals at the Paris Olympics.
Rana gained fame in the 1990s, establishing himself as one of India's shooting greats by guiding the nation to success in various international competitions. Over his illustrious career, he amassed 15 medals at the Commonwealth Games, including 9 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze across the 1994, 1998, 2002, and 2006 events. Additionally, he earned multiple medals at the Asian Games, highlighted by a gold medal at the 1994 Hiroshima Asian Games and an impressive tally of three golds and one silver at the 2006 Doha Asian Games.
Among his other remarkable achievements, Rana won a gold medal at the Junior World Shooting Championships in Milan in 1994, secured multiple golds at the Commonwealth Shooting Championships in 1995, and claimed eight gold medals at the SAIF Games.
