Record-Breaking Century by Head

In a remarkable display, Australia's opening batsman Travis Head achieved the second-fastest century in Ashes history, reaching 100 runs in just 69 balls during Day 2 of the first Test against England in Perth on Saturday.

The record for the fastest century in an Ashes match is held by former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist, who scored a century in 57 balls back in 2006. Head's impressive innings ties him for the third-fastest century for Australia in Test cricket, matching David Warner's record against India in Perth in 2011.

Career Achievements for Head

During his innings against England, Head crossed the milestone of 4,000 runs in Test cricket. He has accumulated a total of 4,107 runs in 61 Test matches, boasting an average of 42.34 and a strike rate of 68.74, including 10 centuries and 20 fifties.

Additionally, he has surpassed 1,000 Test runs against England, amassing 1,054 runs in 14 matches at an average of 42.16, with three centuries and five fifties from 26 innings, maintaining a strike rate exceeding 73.

New Ashes Milestone

Head also made history by becoming the first opener to hit four or more sixes in a single innings during Ashes Tests.

Australia's Dominant Win

While Head's explosive century stole the spotlight, Mitchell Starc's ten-wicket haul was pivotal as Australia secured a commanding eight-wicket victory over England. The match concluded in just two days, marking a significant achievement as the first Ashes Test to finish within two days in a century.

At the start of the second day, England appeared to be in a strong position, having taken nine wickets on Day 1 and leading by 49 runs. They quickly dismissed Australia's last wicket for just nine runs, extending their lead to 40 runs in the second innings.

Australia managed to limit England to 164 runs in their second innings, with Scott Boland taking four wickets and both Brendan Doggett and Mitchell Starc claiming three each. This set a target of 205 runs, which Australia chased down in 28.2 overs, led by Head's explosive performance and Marnus Labuschagne's vital contribution of 51 runs off 49 balls.
