In a heartbreaking incident, five individuals associated with the same pickleball club lost their lives in a plane crash in Texas while en route to a tournament. The tragic event occurred late on April 30 in a forested area close to Wimberley, located in Hays County. The aircraft involved, a Cessna 421C, had taken off from Amarillo and was on its way to New Braunfels when it went down.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has confirmed the identities of the victims as Seren Wilson, Brooke Skypala, Stacy Hedrick, Justin “Glen” Appling, and Hayden Dillard, with Appling serving as the pilot of the plane.

The Amarillo Pickleball Club released a statement on May 1, expressing their grief over the loss of these cherished members of their community. The statement emphasized the need for support for the families affected by this tragedy.

Initial reports indicate that the aircraft was flying at a high speed when the crash occurred. Flight tracking data revealed that the plane had ascended to approximately 17,400 feet before it unexpectedly began to lose altitude. It reportedly descended at a rate exceeding 5,000 feet per minute just before radar contact was lost. Authorities have stated that there is no evidence of a mid-air collision, as another plane in the vicinity landed safely in New Braunfels.
