Traffic Management Ahead of the Big Match

Bhubaneswar: In anticipation of the India vs South Africa T20 match on December 9, along with a practice session on December 8, the Commissionerate Police has released a traffic advisory for Cuttack. The area is expected to experience significant traffic congestion on all major routes leading to Barabati Stadium.

To ensure the safety of players and manage traffic effectively, the police have implemented specific traffic restrictions under the Odisha Urban Police Act, 2003, and Regulation 36 of the Bhubaneswar–Cuttack Police Commissionerate (Traffic and Public Order) Regulation, 2008. These restrictions will be enforced from noon on December 8 until 9 PM, and on December 9 from 8 AM until the match concludes and the crowd disperses, as stated in the official notification signed by Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh.

As per the advisory, vehicles arriving from Mata Matha are instructed to park at Lower Baliyatra Ground, while those with passes should use Upper Baliyatra Ground. Vehicles approaching from Howrah Motor Square and Mani Sahoo Chowk will be redirected from Madhusudan Statue and rerouted via Mahanadi Ring Road to Lower Baliyatra Ground.

Furthermore, vehicles without valid passes will not be allowed access to Barabati Stadium from Biju Patnaik Square, Chandi Mandir Square, Hanuman Mandir Square, or Lions Eye Hospital Square. Access to Baliyatra Ground via Killa Fort from Ananda Bhawan Square will also be restricted.

Heavy vehicles will face strict movement limitations on both Mahanadi and Kathajodi Ring Roads and within city limits from 8 AM to 2 AM. During the practice session on December 8, heavy vehicle traffic will be entirely prohibited between Chahata Square and Sikharpur Square towards Bamboo Depot from noon to 10 PM.
