The Toronto Sixers celebrated a significant achievement in the Canada Super 60 Season 2 by securing both the men's and women's titles. They triumphed over the Vancouver Anchors by five wickets in the men's final held at the renowned BC Place in Vancouver on Tuesday.
Thrilling Final Match
The Vancouver Anchors, co-owned by Zaheer Khan, set a challenging target of 164 runs for the Sixers after being put to bat first. Obus Pienaar delivered an outstanding performance, scoring an unbeaten 82 runs off just 21 balls, while captain Moeen Ali contributed 45 runs off 18 balls. The Anchors started strong with Aneurin Donald scoring 17 runs off nine balls and Aaron Johnson adding 14 runs off ten balls. Despite a duck from Martin Andersson, Moeen and Pienaar dominated the innings, hitting a total of 21 boundaries. Pienaar's explosive innings included 12 sixes and two fours, while Moeen's innings featured five sixes and two fours, leading to a total of 164 runs at a remarkable run rate of 16.40.
In response, the Toronto Sixers chased down the target, finishing at 168/5 on the last ball of the match. Nicholas Pooran was the standout performer for Toronto, scoring 67 runs off 23 balls, including nine sixes and two fours, achieving a strike rate of 291.30. The Sixers reached the final after a narrow nine-run victory against the Mississauga Masters in the first semi-final. Despite Mississauga finishing the league stage unbeaten and at the top of the table, Toronto's composed performance led to their elimination.
The Vancouver Anchors secured their place in the final by defeating the Brampton Blitz by six wickets in the second semi-final. This set the stage for a championship clash between the second and fourth-placed teams from the league stage, culminating in Toronto's remarkable double victory after their women's team had already retained its title.
