Star-Studded Lineup for the India Championship

New Delhi, August 6: The India Championship, boasting a prize pool of $4 million, is set to feature the renowned seven-time European Tour champion and Olympic Silver Medalist Tommy Fleetwood, who will be joining career grand slam victor Rory McIlroy at the Delhi Golf Club from October 16-19.

Fleetwood, a prominent figure in the European Ryder Cup, is making a much-anticipated return to India for this inaugural event, sponsored by DP World, marking his first appearance in Delhi since 2016.

In 2017, the English golfer earned the title of European Number One by leading the Race to Dubai Rankings. He made a remarkable Ryder Cup debut in Paris the following year, securing four points out of five to contribute to his team's success. Fleetwood has since represented Europe on two additional occasions, including a pivotal victory in Rome in 2023 against Rickie Fowler.

Beyond his achievements on the course, Fleetwood is dedicated to giving back to the sport. He established the Tommy Fleetwood Academy at Formby Hall in England, where he first honed his skills, and at the Golf Performance Centre in Dubai, his current residence.

The India Championship, co-sanctioned with the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), was launched this season by DP World and the DP World Tour, also known as the European Tour.

Expressing his excitement, Fleetwood stated, “I cannot wait to return to Delhi for the DP World India Championship. The atmosphere is incredible—the people, the cuisine—I'm eager to experience it all. My primary goal is to play well and entertain the Indian fans during this crucial part of the season.”

He added, “I am also looking forward to playing at Delhi Golf Club again. I recall it as a tight, strategic course that levels the playing field, allowing various playing styles to compete, which should lead to an exciting week.”

This new tournament builds on the success of the 2025 Hero Indian Open, recently won by Eugenio Chacarra, and enhances the Tour's presence in the region.

Yuvraj Narayan, Group Deputy CEO and CFO at DP World, remarked, “India is integral to our global operations, and hosting a tournament of this magnitude underscores our long-term commitment to the country. With Rory McIlroy already confirmed, we are thrilled to have Tommy Fleetwood join the lineup, promising a world-class event. This championship will highlight India's significance in the professional golf arena, and we are proud to bring this international event to Delhi in October.”

This championship will be the eighth of nine events in the 'Back 9' phase of the 2025 Race to Dubai, leading up to the season-ending DP World Tour Play-Offs and culminating in the DP World Tour Championship in November at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai.
