Tom Moody Critiques Shreyas Iyer's Performance in IPL 2025 Qualifier

Tom Moody's Analysis of Shreyas Iyer's Dismissal

Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody believes that Shreyas Iyer struggled to grasp the conditions during Punjab Kings' defeat against RCB in the IPL 2025 Qualifier 1. RCB managed to restrict Punjab to the lowest score in IPL playoff history, chasing down the target in just 10 overs, resulting in an eight-wicket loss for Punjab.

Punjab, batting first against RCB, found themselves at 27/2 after three overs when Iyer came to the crease. Unfortunately, the Punjab captain was dismissed for just 2 runs, caught by wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma off a delivery from Josh Hazlewood. Moody commented on Iyer's dismissal, indicating that the captain failed to read the situation effectively.

Speaking on ESPN Cricinfo's Timeout, Moody stated, 'Sometimes you need to put your ego aside. In my opinion, this was a prime example of not understanding the situation. You just had to face Hazlewood. It was a straightforward task to tackle him and dismantle the rest of their attack. Shreyas faced the first ball and missed it. It was a perfect line that you would expect from Hazlewood.'

Moody further elaborated, 'I think Shreyas completely misread the game situation and his own position. Yes, he would know that Hazlewood has dismissed him multiple times before, and he would be aware of the precise statistics. The way he played that delivery was not how he should have approached it, leading to his dismissal on the third ball.'
