Tim Southee Appointed as Specialist Skills Consultant

On Thursday, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) revealed that former New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee has been appointed as a specialist skills consultant for the England men's cricket teams on a temporary basis.

In an official statement, the ECB confirmed, "Tim Southee, a former New Zealand international, has joined us as a specialist skills consultant for the England men's teams for a short-term engagement."

At 36 years old, Southee recently concluded his international career in December, finishing as New Zealand's all-time leading wicket-taker. He will provide support to England's teams across all formats until the end of the Test series against India, which begins on June 20 at Headingley.

Southee's extensive experience in various playing conditions globally and across all formats will offer valuable insights and knowledge to the players.

Southee's Role During the One-Off Test Against Zimbabwe

He will begin his consultancy role with the England squad during the one-off Test match against Zimbabwe, set to take place at Trent Bridge next Thursday.

After completing his consultancy, Southee will return to playing, participating in The Hundred for Birmingham Phoenix.

Having retired after the home series against England last year, Southee leaves the game with an impressive total of 776 international wickets, the highest for any New Zealand bowler across all formats. His record includes 391 Test wickets, ranking second among New Zealand bowlers, only behind Richard Hadlee's 431.

In T20 internationals, he holds the record for the most wickets with 164, while in ODIs, he ranks third among Kiwis with 221 wickets, following Kyle Mills and Daniel Vettori.

Additionally, Southee has proven to be a competent lower-order batsman, accumulating 3,288 runs in 394 matches at an average of 14.11, including eight fifties. His Test runs total 2,245 at an average of 15.48, with seven fifties, and he ranks fourth for the most sixes in Tests with 98.
