Tim Paine Takes on New Role as Australia A Coach for Upcoming Series
Tim Paine's New Coaching Appointment
Canberra [Australia], June 20: Tim Paine, the former captain of the Australian Test cricket team and current coach of the Adelaide Strikers, has been appointed as the coach for Australia A for three series scheduled in the latter half of this year, as reported by a sports news outlet.
Paine will serve in a consultancy capacity, overseeing the Australia A men's series while also supporting the women's team and managing his responsibilities with the Strikers in the Big Bash League.
He will lead Australia A in three 50-over matches and two four-day games against Sri Lanka A in Darwin this July. Additionally, Paine is set to guide the Australia A squad on a tour to India in September and October for a series of matches across all formats. He is also expected to coach a one-off four-day match against the England Lions, likely occurring in late October or early November.
In recent years, the 40-year-old has gained experience as an assistant coach with Australia A and various development teams. He previously worked under Adam Voges, who led Australia A during a multi-format home series against New Zealand in 2023.
Paine also assisted Cricket Australia's national development coach, Lachlan Stevens, last season when Australia A hosted India A. He took on the role of head coach for the Prime Minister's XI during their match against India in Canberra.
With Stevens stepping down from his position at Cricket Australia, Paine will now take over the coaching duties for Australia A against Sri Lanka A, with support from the new national pace bowling coach Adam Griffith, assistant coach for the Australian women's team Scott Prestwidge, and Trent Keep, the Pathway and Development coach for Northern Territory Cricket.
Griffith has been assigned to the Caribbean as the interim bowling coach for the first two Tests against the West Indies, as Daniel Vettori will be absent for the entire tour due to family commitments.
Former wicketkeeper Matthew Wade will also join the coaching staff for Australia's T20I matches in the Caribbean, having previously served as a consultant coach during Australia's white-ball series against Pakistan.
