Tim David Dismisses ODI Comeback Amid T20 Focus
Tim David's Stance on ODI Format
Australian all-rounder Tim David has firmly stated that a return to One Day Internationals (ODIs) is highly unlikely, especially with the recent unexpected retirements of Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis. Despite discussions about his potential inclusion in Australia's preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup, David remains committed to T20 cricket.
On Tuesday, David mentioned, "I am definitely having discussions with my coaches and others about my current game situation."
He added, "Honestly, I’m not sure. It’s not part of my immediate plans. This year is packed with T20 commitments leading up to the World Cup. My winter schedule looks quite different compared to previous years when I would be away for several months. Now, with numerous T20 series lined up, I have little time to consider anything else. We’ll see how things unfold, but as of now, I have no plans for ODIs."
Injury Recovery and Upcoming Matches
Tim David is currently recovering from a hamstring injury he sustained during IPL 2025 while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He is gearing up for Australia's T20 tour, which kicks off on July 20 in Jamaica. The 29-year-old has not participated in a List A match since his last ODI appearance in 2023 and has played very few domestic 50-over games, with his only One-Day Cup match dating back to 2021 for Tasmania. Additionally, he does not hold a local contract, having last signed a rookie deal with Western Australia in the 2017-18 season before briefly representing Singapore.
David has committed to two more seasons with the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL) but will miss the upcoming Global T20 League due to a slower-than-expected recovery from his IPL injury.
