Tilak Varma Joins Hampshire for County Championship Season

Tilak Varma's New Adventure in County Cricket
Indian cricketer Tilak Varma is set to represent Hampshire in the ongoing County season. The 22-year-old has previously played for India in four One Day Internationals and 25 T20 matches. Hampshire has invited him to participate in the County Championship Division One, as announced by the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) on June 11.
Interestingly, Varma's last appearance in a red-ball format was with India A, where he played under Mayank Agarwal against India C during the Duleep Trophy held in Anantapur from September 19 to 22, 2024.

“The Hyderabad Cricket Association is pleased to announce that international player Mr. N Thakur Tilak Varma has been approached by Hampshire County to participate in the UK County Championship League. We wish him a successful tenure with Hampshire County,”
Varma was last seen playing for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025. He has participated in 18 first-class matches, accumulating 1204 runs, which includes five centuries and four half-centuries. His batting average stands at an impressive 50.16 in red-ball cricket. In addition to his batting prowess, Varma is also a skilled fielder and a handy off-spinner, having taken eight wickets at an average of 12.87 and a strike rate of 24.10.
Hampshire has played seven matches in the current County Championship Division One, securing two wins, three draws, and two losses. Their most recent match ended in a nine-wicket defeat against Sussex, the league leaders, at The Rose Bowl from May 23 to 26. Hampshire's next red-ball fixture is against Essex at the County Ground in Chelmsford, scheduled for June 22 to 25.
