Tilak Varma Sets Sights on 2027 World Cup Participation

As India prepares for the fourth T20I against New Zealand, batter Tilak Varma has revealed his dedication to enhancing his bowling skills in anticipation of the 2027 Cricket World Cup. With India leading the series 3-0, the upcoming matches present an opportunity for the team to secure a clean sweep, while the Kiwis aim to restore pride in front of their home crowd.

Bowling Aspirations and Team Strategy

Discussing his potential contributions in T20Is and ODIs, especially with the ICC Cricket World Cup in South Africa on the horizon, Tilak, a right-arm spinner, stated, "The team management and I have had discussions about my bowling, and I have been diligently working on it." He acknowledged that his Mumbai Indians teammate, Naman Dhir, has been performing well, reducing the immediate need for him to bowl, but he remains ready to step in when required.

Team Dynamics and Individual Performance

"Currently, Naman is doing a fantastic job, so I haven't needed to bowl yet. However, I practice regularly and feel confident in my abilities. When the chance arises, I will take it. Naman's performance in T20s has been commendable, and it's important to let a bowler in form continue," he explained.

Throughout his T20I career, Tilak has claimed five wickets with an impressive average of 12.80 and an economy rate of 6.09. In total, he has taken 12 T20 wickets at an average of 27.33, with his best figures being 3/31. Naman, on the other hand, has made a notable impact with five wickets in five innings at an average of just over 24.

Dedication to Fielding Excellence

Renowned for his agility on the field, Tilak expressed his passion for fielding, stating that he views it as an enjoyable challenge rather than a burden. His athleticism has significantly contributed to his fielding prowess.

"I've always been a strong fielder. I enjoy practicing fielding and never see it as a chore. Playing in different conditions, like windy or cold weather, can be challenging, but I genuinely love it. I embrace the responsibility of fielding and always strive to be in the right spots. The team trusts my catching skills, which allows me to contribute effectively and engage the crowd with spectacular catches," he added.
