Tiger Woods Arrested for DUI After Florida Crash: Body Cam Footage Revealed
Tiger Woods' Shocking Arrest Following Car Accident
Tiger Woods was taken aback when he was placed in handcuffs after a vehicle accident in Florida last week, as shown in body camera footage released on Thursday.
A deputy from the Martin County Sheriff's Office, Tatiana Levenar, informed Woods, "I believe your normal faculties are impaired, and you’re under an unknown substance, so at this time you’re under arrest for DUI," after performing a sobriety test.
Woods explained that he was distracted by his phone and adjusting the radio when his speeding Land Rover struck the rear of a truck, causing it to roll onto its side on a residential street in Jupiter Island.
"I’m being arrested?" Woods asked in disbelief while standing by the roadside.
"Yes sir," Levenar confirmed.
The footage also revealed that officers discovered pills in Woods' pocket following the crash.
"That’s a Norco," Woods identified the two white pills when an officer presented them, referring to a painkiller that includes acetaminophen and hydrocodone. Authorities later verified that Woods had hydrocodone in his possession.
In the bodycam video, Woods told Levenar that he had not consumed any alcohol but had taken "a few" medications earlier that day, although his specific words were muted in the released footage.
On Tuesday, Woods pleaded not guilty to the DUI charge and later issued a statement announcing his decision to step away indefinitely to "seek treatment and focus on my health."
