Exciting Start for Indian Doubles Team
In Bangkok, top-seeded duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty faced a tough challenge but ultimately triumphed over Indonesia's Muh Putra Erwiansyah and Bagas Maulana in a gripping three-game match during the men's doubles at the Thailand Open Super 500 tournament on Tuesday.
The Indian pair, currently ranked fourth in the world, secured a hard-fought victory with scores of 21-19, 21-23, and 21-10, completing the match in 64 minutes.
Initially, Satwik and Chirag found themselves behind at 11-16 in the first game but rallied impressively, scoring seven consecutive points to take the lead.
Despite a comeback from Muh and Bagas that leveled the score at 18-18, the Indian team maintained their composure to clinch the first game.
The second game was fiercely contested, with both teams engaged in lengthy rallies. The Indians managed to establish a narrow three-point lead at the interval.
However, the Indonesian pair surged ahead after the break, leading 17-14. Despite the Indians' efforts to recover, the match proceeded to a decisive third game.
In the final game, Satwik and Chirag asserted their dominance, quickly establishing an 11-5 lead at the break and comfortably finishing the match.
Next, the Indian duo will compete against Malaysia's Bryan Jeremy Goonting and Muhammad Haikal.
Earlier in the tournament, Malaysia's Olympic bronze medalist Lee Zii Jia, returning from injury, defeated India's Manav Choudhary with scores of 21-19, 21-18 in a qualifying match.
In mixed doubles qualification, India's M Jaglan and L Jaglan were defeated by Chinese Taipei's Tsai Fu Cheng and Sung Yu Hsuan with scores of 11-21, 18-21. Additionally, in women's singles qualification, Thailand's Y Ketklieng triumphed over India's A Shahapurkar with a score of 21-5, 21-7.
In the men's doubles opening round, seventh seeds Hariharan Amsakarunan and M.R. Arjun lost to Chinese Taipei's Chen Zhi Ray and Lin Yu Chieh with scores of 18-21, 20-22.
In women's doubles, Rutaparna Panda and Swetaparna Panda fell to Chinese Taipei's Lin Chih Chun and Yang Chu Yun with scores of 9-21, 11-21.
