Thrilling IPL 2025 Finish: GT Edges MI in Nail-Biting Encounter

A Dramatic Conclusion at Wankhede Stadium

In a gripping IPL 2025 match held at Wankhede Stadium on May 6, Gujarat Titans (GT) clinched a thrilling three-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) on the final ball. The match reached a tense climax when MI had a chance for a run-out, but Hardik Pandya's throw missed its target, and Deepak Chahar also failed to hit the stumps while attempting to return.

Due to heavy rain, the match was shortened to a single super-slow over, with GT needing 15 runs as per the DLS method. With Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult having completed their overs, Chahar was called upon to bowl the decisive final over.

Chahar struggled with the older ball during the critical moments, conceding runs and a no-ball that brought GT closer to victory. With just one run needed off the last delivery, Coetzee was caught in the deep, momentarily raising MI's hopes.

Arshad Khan struck the last ball towards mid-off and sprinted for a single. Although Pandya collected the ball cleanly, he had no backup at the stumps. Chahar's follow-through was not effective, and Suryakumar Yadav was just arriving from the circle.

With no support, Pandya attempted a direct hit at the stumps but missed, allowing Arshad to complete the run and secure the match for GT.

This narrow defeat halted MI's impressive six-match winning streak. Hardik Pandya's squad was looking for a significant boost towards the playoffs before this setback.

GT had been in a strong position during the chase until Shubman Gill and Sherfane Rutherford fell quickly after the first rain break. This slip gave MI a glimmer of hope, but they ultimately could not finish the job.
