Newcomers Vedanta Leopards showcased their resilience by first overcoming a nail-biting Eliminator against the Vernost Jaguars, securing a 19-13 victory, and then pulling off an incredible comeback in the Qualifier, narrowly defeating the Khan Tigers 10-9 in a super shootout to clinch a spot in the semi-finals.
The atmosphere was electric as the Vedanta Leopards celebrated their back-to-back wins, joined by team owner Ankit Agarwal on the sidelines.
Eliminator: Vedanta Leopards vs Vernost Jaguars
The opening set featured Jairo Bautista and Sanyo facing off against Pol Hernandez and Rama Valenzuela in a match defined by skill and composure. After trailing for a significant portion, the Leopards rallied to secure a 7-5 win. The Jaguars responded with the Deus brothers, Miguel and Nuno, leveling the match with a solid 6-4 victory over Ignacio Piotto and Javi G Mora in the second set.
With their tournament hopes hanging in the balance, Tamara Icardo and Marta Ortega rose to the occasion, clinching a crucial 6-2 win that propelled the Leopards into the Qualifier.
Qualifier: Khan Tigers vs Vedanta Leopards
In a quick turnaround, the Leopards faced the Khan Tigers again. The first set saw Alejandra Salazar and Veronica Virseda narrowly defeat Icardo and Ortega 7-5 in a fiercely contested match. The second set mirrored this intensity, with Leopards’ Piotto and Mora battling hard but ultimately losing 7-5 to Juan Bellauti and Lucho Capra. Bellauti remarked, “It was a very good match, decided by the details, and we were happy to go into the final set with a four-game lead.”
Facing a four-game deficit in the final set, Jairo Bautista and Sanyo mounted a remarkable comeback, winning 6-2 against Capra and Jose Rico, which led to a super shootout with the score tied at 16-16. According to league rules, the first team to reach 10 points wins the super shootout, with sudden death rules applying at 9-9. In a thrilling finish, the Leopards completed their comeback, winning 10-9 and securing a place in the semi-finals.
