Thierry Henry Honored with Street Naming in NYC

A street in New York City has been officially named 'Thierry Henry Way' in recognition of the legendary French footballer and Arsenal F.C. star, as reported by ESPN. This tribute comes just before the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The intersection of 50th Street and Sixth Avenue now bears his name.

Thierry Henry, who enjoyed a remarkable career from 1994 to 2012, played for several prestigious clubs, including Monaco (1994-1999), Juventus (1999), Arsenal (1999-2007), Barcelona (2007-2010), and the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer (MLS) from 2010 to 2014, where he netted 52 goals in 135 appearances. He is particularly celebrated for his achievements with Arsenal and Barcelona, securing two Premier League titles, two La Liga titles, and a UEFA Champions League title with the latter.

Henry's Response to the Honor

During a video presentation at the unveiling ceremony, Henry expressed his gratitude, stating, "It is an incredible honor for 50th Street and Sixth Avenue to be named Thierry Henry Way."

He also shared his feelings on social media platform X, saying, "As a Frenchman who calls London my home, NEW YORK remains my favorite city in the world. To have a street named after me is an HONOR I could only have dreamed of. This city holds such a special place in my heart - my son Tristan was born here, so NEW YORK is forever a part of our family's story. Unfortunately, I couldn't be there today as I'm working, but I was with you all in spirit. Thank you for this incredible honor. A special thank you to my Red Bull teammates for representing me and to Mayor Mamdani and Virginia Maloney for your kindness and recognition. I'll be back soon for a SELFIE."

A Tribute to Football Icons

The newly named street is situated in Manhattan, close to the Rockefeller Center, and the announcement was made on June 10. Thierry Henry is not the only football legend to receive such an honor; Brazilian icon Pele, the only player to have won three FIFA World Cups, also has a street named 'Pele Way' in Queens, New York.

New York City will host eight matches during the upcoming global football event at MetLife Stadium, including the championship match on July 20. Both 'Pele Way' and 'Thierry Henry Way' will be visible in New York until November this year.
