Thierry Henry Praises Michael Olise's Stellar World Cup Performance
Henry's High Praise for Olise
Thierry Henry, the former Arsenal and French football star, has expressed admiration for fellow French striker Michael Olise, calling him a 'boy on another planet' due to his remarkable performances in the ongoing FIFA World Cup.
Olise's impressive journey in the tournament continued as he recorded his fifth assist during a 3-0 victory against Sweden on Tuesday. According to Opta Analyst, he has achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first player since Germany's Thomas Habler in 1994 to achieve five or more assists in a single World Cup. The only player with more assists in World Cup history is the legendary Brazilian Pele, who had six in the 1970 tournament.
Exceptional Skills on the Field
During a segment on Fox Sports, Henry highlighted Olise's exceptional abilities, particularly his contributions off the ball. He stated, 'What he does without the ball is second to none. Many focus on a player's actions with the ball, but Olise excels in his defensive responsibilities as well.'
Having coached Olise two years ago as the manager of the French under-23 team at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Henry noted Olise's significant contributions, including two goals and five assists, which helped the team secure a silver medal. 'Michael is extraordinary. His perception of the game is unique. When things don’t go his way, he shows his frustration, but he is an incredible talent,' Henry remarked.
Sagnol's Ballon d'Or Prediction
Willy Sagnol, a former Bayern Munich player, also praised Olise, asserting that it would be a travesty if he does not win the Ballon d'Or. In comments to BILD, he stated, 'Olise is the best player in the world, far surpassing others. If he doesn’t win the Ballon d'Or this year, something is seriously wrong with football.'
Sagnol emphasized that unlike legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, Olise embodies the spirit of a true team player, stating, 'He doesn’t care about scoring; he focuses on what benefits the team. For our youth, he is a fantastic role model.' He further noted that while Ronaldo and Messi are phenomenal, they tend to prioritize their individual statistics.
