Jannik Sinner Triumphs at Monte Carlo Masters, Claims World No. 1 Spot
Historic Victory for Jannik Sinner
On April 12, Jannik Sinner made headlines by defeating his long-time rival Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the 2026 Monte Carlo Masters, held at the Monte-Carlo Country Club in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. The Italian player secured a straight-sets victory with scores of 7-6, 6-3, completing the match in just over two hours. This win not only marked Sinner's first title at this prestigious tournament but also allowed him to dethrone Alcaraz from the world No. 1 position, a rank Alcaraz had regained after losing it following the 2025 US Open final. With this victory, Sinner has now claimed seven out of nine ATP Masters 1000 titles in his career, with only the Madrid and Rome Opens remaining elusive.
Jannik Sinner's Remarkable Achievement
Having already won the Indian Wells and Miami Opens earlier this year, Sinner has now triumphed in all three Masters 1000 events this season. Following his success at the Paris Masters last year, he has now secured four consecutive titles at this level, losing only one set during this impressive run. Sinner becomes the second player in tennis history to win the first three ATP Masters 1000 titles in a single year, a feat previously accomplished only by Novak Djokovic in 2015. Notably, Sinner is the youngest player to achieve this milestone, as Djokovic was 28 at the time.
Additionally, Sinner joins an elite group as only the third player to win four consecutive ATP Masters 1000 titles, alongside Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

According to Opta Ace, Sinner is now the fourth player in history to win the Monte Carlo Masters after defeating the defending champion in the final, following in the footsteps of Andrei Medvedev (1994), Nadal (2005), and Djokovic (2013). Notably, Sinner is the only player to achieve this against a reigning world No. 1. While Djokovic has won all nine ATP Masters 1000 events, Sinner's seven titles place him in a tie with legends Andy Murray and Roger Federer, while Rafael Nadal, Andre Agassi, and Daniil Medvedev have each won six of the nine events.
