Jannik Sinner Sets New Record at Italian Open Semifinals
Historic Achievement by Jannik Sinner
Jannik Sinner has made headlines by reaching the semifinals of the Italian Open, marking a significant milestone in his career. The 24-year-old Italian tennis player triumphed over Russian competitor Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals on Thursday (May 14) at the renowned Foro Italico in Rome. Sinner secured the match in straight sets, winning 6-2 and 6-4 in a duration of 1 hour and 31 minutes. Impressively, he has not lost a single set throughout the tournament, having previously won his matches in straight sets during the rounds of 64, 32, and 16.
Jannik Sinner's Record-Breaking Streak
This victory signifies Sinner's 32nd consecutive win in ATP Masters 1000 events, establishing a new world record for the most wins since the format's inception in 1990. The previous record was held by Novak Djokovic, who had over 30 wins on two occasions since 2011. Roger Federer follows with the fourth-longest winning streak.
Longest Winning Streak in ATP Masters 1000 Events| Player | Matches won | Period |
| Jannik Sinner | 32 | 2025 Paris Open 2nd Round To Ongoing |
| Novak Djokovic | 31 | 2011 India Wells Open 2nd Round To 2011 Cincinnati Open Final (lost to Andy Murray) |
| Novak Djokovic | 30 | 2014 Paris Open 2nd Round to 2015 Montreal Open final (lost to Andy Murray) |
| Roger Federer | 29 | Hamburg Open 2005 1st Round To 2006 Monte Carlo Open Final (lost to Rafael Nadal) |
Additionally, Sinner has commenced the season with an impressive 27 consecutive victories, ranking as the second-longest winning streak at the start of a season in ATP 1000 Masters events. Only Djokovic, with 31 wins, surpasses him in this elite category. The World No. 4 has also become the second player in history to reach the semifinals of all five ATP Masters 1000 events in a single year, a feat previously accomplished only by Rafael Nadal in 2010 and 2011.
Sinner's remarkable journey began at last year's Paris Masters, where he won without dropping a set. He later achieved the Sunshine Double by winning both the Indian Wells and Miami Open, again without losing a set. This impressive run allowed him to claim the record for the most consecutive sets won in ATP Masters 1000 events, previously held by Djokovic. His clay court season has been equally impressive, with victories in both the Monte Carlo and Madrid Opens leading up to Rome.
He has now won the last five ATP Masters 1000 titles, setting a new record, as no player had previously won more than four consecutive titles. Furthermore, he has lifted the trophy in each of the first four events of the year, a feat that has been achieved before. A victory in Rome would extend his record to six consecutive title wins. Remarkably, he has won 64 of the last 66 sets played at this level. Today’s match marked Sinner’s 150th appearance in an ATP Masters 1000 event, where only Nadal (123) has more wins than Sinner (121) at this stage in their careers.
