New York, Sep 8: The defending champion, Carlos Alcaraz, is set to compete against the USA's leading men's singles player, Ben Shelton, in what is anticipated to be an exhilarating quarterfinal at the US Open.
Following four thrilling rounds in New York, the tournament progresses to the quarterfinals, where athletes will strive relentlessly for Grand Slam success. Alcaraz's match against Shelton is expected to be particularly intense, while two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka will face Czech player Linda Noskova for a spot in the semifinals, with both matches taking place at the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The stadium will also host two all-American quarterfinals, featuring Jessica Pegula, the top women's singles player from the USA, against Emma Navarro, and 11th seed Frances Tiafoe going up against the unseeded Alex Michelsen in the men's singles.
These matchups are poised to challenge the players significantly, with Shelton anticipated to put up a strong fight against Alcaraz. Recently, Shelton remarked that defeating the Spaniard would require "special tennis," having lost to him in all previous encounters.
On the other hand, Sabalenka aims to maintain her strong record against sixth seed Noskova, having won their last two meetings without dropping a set.
Jessica Pegula, aged 32, boasts a 4-0 head-to-head record against Navarro and will rely on her past victories to advance against her fellow American. Meanwhile, Tiafoe, who triumphed over Daniil Medvedev in the round of 16, seeks to secure his third consecutive win against Michelsen.
Additionally, India's Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi will compete in the junior girls' singles event, facing Arina Malygina in the second round.
