Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws from French Open Due to Wrist Injury
Alcaraz's Injury Forces Withdrawal
The reigning champion, Carlos Alcaraz, has officially announced his withdrawal from the French Open as a result of a wrist injury. This injury was sustained during the initial round of the Barcelona Open, leading to his exit from the Madrid Open as well. Although there were ongoing discussions about his potential absence from the French Open, Alcaraz had kept fans in suspense, indicating that a final decision would be made following medical scans.
On Friday, Alcaraz confirmed via social media that he would not be participating in either the ATP Rome or Roland Garros tournaments. He previously triumphed in both events, defeating Jannik Sinner in the finals. In his Instagram post, Alcaraz stated, "After the results of the tests carried out today, we have decided that the most prudent thing to do is to be cautious and not participate in Rome or Roland Garros, while we assess the situation to determine when we can return to the court. This is a difficult time for me, but I am sure we will come out of this stronger."
Alcaraz began 2026 on a high note, winning the Australian Open and becoming the youngest player to achieve a career Grand Slam. However, he faced a setback when he lost to Jannik Sinner in the Monte Carlo final, which also resulted in him losing the No. 1 ranking he had secured after defeating Sinner in the US Open 2025 final. More updates will follow as the situation develops.
