Tejasvi Jaiswal, the elder sibling of Indian cricketer Yashasvi Jaiswal, expressed his appreciation for the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU) for creating opportunities for local players to demonstrate their skills in the Uttarakhand Premier League (UPL). This statement came after the Tehri Titans faced a narrow four-wicket loss to the Pithoragarh Hurricanes in their opening match of UPL 2026, held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun on Wednesday.
Making his debut in UPL Season 3, Tejasvi shared his enjoyment of the league's atmosphere and experience. "The environment was fantastic. I truly enjoyed playing here. The overall vibe was very encouraging, and being part of UPL Season 3 was a great experience," he remarked.
Match Highlights
The Tehri Titans set a competitive score of 184/8 after batting first, with Ayush contributing a quick 46 runs off 19 balls, while Aryan Sharma finished not out on 37 from 15 balls. However, the Pithoragarh Hurricanes successfully chased down the target with just two balls remaining, thanks to Mayank Mishra's impressive 42 runs off 18 balls, which proved crucial for his team's victory.
UPL's Impact on Local Talent
Tejasvi reflected on UPL's significance in fostering cricket talent within the state, emphasizing the league's role in providing opportunities for players who may not frequently participate in T20 matches. "I want to extend my gratitude to CAU for organizing such an excellent UPL. Many local players lack regular chances to play T20 cricket, and this league offers them a platform to showcase their abilities. CAU is doing commendable work, and I believe we will see many talented players emerge from UPL in the future," he stated.
Optimism Despite Initial Setback
Despite the loss, Tejasvi maintained a positive outlook regarding the Tehri Titans' future in the tournament, noting that the team can learn valuable lessons from the closely contested match. "It was indeed a pressure game, and it was close until the last over. However, this was just our first match, and the league is still ongoing. We have plenty of cricket left to play, so we will learn from this experience and aim to improve in the upcoming games," he explained.
Areas for Improvement
Tejasvi pinpointed specific areas for enhancement, particularly in powerplay and death-overs bowling. "We need to work on a few aspects. Our performance in the powerplay could have been better, and our bowling during the death overs needs improvement. These are areas we can address. By recognizing our mistakes and working on them, we can achieve better outcomes in future matches," he added.
Preparation for Domestic Season
As the domestic season approaches, Tejasvi expressed his commitment to refining his skills and preparing to represent CAU effectively. "I am diligently preparing for the domestic season, focusing on my fundamentals and the techniques I rely on in my game. My goal is to continue my preparation and hopefully deliver strong performances for CAU in the upcoming season," he concluded.
