Historic Victory for Young Badminton Star

On Sunday, 17-year-old Tanvi Sharma from Hoshiarpur made headlines by clinching the BWF Taipei Open Super 300 women’s singles title, marking a significant milestone in her career.

At the age of 17 years and 222 days, she has now become the youngest player ever to win this prestigious tournament, breaking the record previously held by the renowned Tai Tzu Ying.

In the final match, Tanvi showcased her skills by defeating Vietnam's sixth seed, Nguyen Thuy Linh, with a score of 21-16, 21-16, securing her most significant title to date. This victory also ended an 18-year drought for India in women’s singles at the Taipei Open, the last being Saina Nehwal's win in 2008.

Tanvi's rise in the badminton world has been nothing short of extraordinary. Trained by her mother and coach, Meena Sharma, she has quickly become one of India’s most promising talents, achieving the rank of World Junior No. 1, earning several international junior medals, and breaking into the top-35 of the senior BWF world rankings. Her consistent performances have positioned her as one of the fastest-rising young athletes globally.

The success story of Tanvi is deeply intertwined with her mother Meena's unwavering dedication and sacrifices, which have been pivotal in guiding her from local courts in Hoshiarpur to the international stage.
