Tanvi Sharma Reaches Women's Singles Final

Tanvi Sharma has successfully made her way to the women's singles final at the Taipei Open Super 300. She achieved this by defeating fifth seed Huang Yu-Hsun from Chinese Taipei with scores of 21-17 and 21-11 during the semifinals held on Saturday. This marks Tanvi's second appearance in the finals of a BWF World Tour Super 300 event, following her runner-up finish at the US Open in 2025.

Upcoming Title Match

In the final, Tanvi will compete against sixth seed Nguyen Thuy Linh from Vietnam. The two players have faced each other once before, with Tanvi leading their head-to-head record 1-0 after her victory at the US Open 2025. Nguyen secured her spot in the final by overcoming Unnati Hooda with scores of 21-15 and 21-18 in the other semifinal.

HS Prannoy's Early Exit

On a different note, HS Prannoy faced an unfortunate early exit from the Taipei Open 2026 badminton tournament, losing in the second round on Thursday. Meanwhile, Unnati Hooda and three other Indian players advanced to the quarter-finals of this BWF Super 300 event.

Prannoy was defeated by Hong Kong's Jason Gunawan, with scores of 21-9 and 21-19, in a match that lasted 39 minutes. The world No. 38 struggled significantly in the first game and, despite a better performance in the second, could not force a third game. This loss adds to a challenging 2026 BWF World Tour season for Prannoy, who has yet to progress beyond the second round in any tournament this year.

Gunawan, who previously eliminated India's Mithun Manjunath in the opening round, has now knocked out two Indian players in consecutive rounds. Notably, Prannoy also faced a first-round defeat at the China Open 2026 in Changzhou earlier this month, where he lost to Malaysia's world No. 27 Leong Jun Hao with scores of 21-10 and 21-14.
