Tamil Nadu Surfing Association Honored with Chief Minister's State Sports Award
Recognition for Excellence in Sports Organization
The Tamil Nadu Surfing Association (TNSA) has been awarded the esteemed Chief Minister's State Sports Award for 2025-2026 in the Best Sports Organizer category. This accolade, given by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, acknowledges TNSA's significant role in organizing national and international surfing events and promoting the sport throughout the state. Arun Vasu, the President of the Surfing Federation of India (SFI), accepted the award on behalf of TNSA, as stated in a recent press release.
Tamil Nadu: A Hub for Surfing in India
In recent years, Tamil Nadu has emerged as the surfing capital of India, becoming a key destination for surfing and stand-up paddling. The state boasts renowned surf spots like Covelong (Kovalam) and Mahabalipuram, having successfully hosted prestigious competitions, including the Asian Surfing Championships and various national surfing and SUP championships.
Government Support and Infrastructure Development
The advancement of surfing in Tamil Nadu has received strong backing from Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu. Under the leadership of SDAT Member Secretary Meghnath Reddy, improved infrastructure and ongoing support have allowed TNSA to organize world-class events and nurture emerging talent. These initiatives have not only enhanced India's standing in the global surfing arena but have also fostered local talent, with several Tamil Nadu surfers achieving success in international competitions.

The unwavering support from the Tamil Nadu government, combined with the dedicated efforts of TNSA and the Surfing Federation of India, has facilitated the growth of surfing at both grassroots and elite levels.
